"Kyokusui no en" in Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine

One of the events at Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine is called "Kyokusui no en".
Kyokusui no en is held on the first Sunday of March every year.
"Kyokusui no en" means that each attendee sits at the edge of a stream in the garden.
A sake cup filled with sake is poured from the upper reaches of the stream.
Before the sake cup comes to the participants, they must think of a poem and read it.
Afterwards, the participants gather in a separate room and recite the poem.
"Kyokusui no en" is recorded to have begun in 485 as a court ceremony.
In Dazaifu, there was a record that it was started in 958.
Currently, the "Kyokusui no en" of the Heian period (794-1192) is being recreated, with the attendees dressed as aristocrats of the time.
"Kyokusui no en" in 2022 was held on March 6.
However, due to COVID-19 measures, public tours are now prohibited.
Therefore, we were only able to take videos of the "Kyokusui no en" participants moving around.
For more information on "Kyokusui no en", we would like to post photos of the diorama on display at the "Kanko Historical Museum".
This is the Japanese garden where "Kyokusui no en" is held.
This time, due to COVID-19 measures, we are not allowed to approach the Japanese garden.
Therefore, I photographed from a distance.
