In Japan, there is a way of thinking about the calendar called Kanshi(Eto).
Kanshi is like the name of the year, and the name changes every year.
The roots of this Kanshi are in ancient China.
And in 2022, Japan's Kanshi will be Mizunoe-Tora (Tiger).
In 2021, the Kanshi will be Kanoto-Ushi (Ox) and in 2023, Mizunoto-U (Rabbit).
Kanshi is determined by a combination of 10 elements called Jikkan and 12 animals called Jhuni-shi.
Since there are 60 patterns in this combination, Kanshi has a 60-year cycle.
After the 60-year cycle, the next new cycle begins. This is called Kan-reki.
As you can imagine, each element of Jikkan and Jhuni-shi has its own meaning.
I will explain it next.

Now, Kanshi(Eto) is sometimes used as a name for things.
For example, the civil war in Japan in 1868 was called the Boshin (another reading of Tsuchinoe-Tatsu) War, because the Kanshi (Eto) of that year was Tsuchinoe-Tatsu (dragon).
The Hyogo baseball stadium, completed in 1924, was named Khoshi (another reading of Kinoe-Ne) En Stadium, because Kanshi (Eto) in that year was Kinoe-Ne (mouse).
